Omnissa Horizon – Accessing a virtual Windows 11 computer

This guide will describe the three ways that you can access Virtual Windows Computers on or off campus. This is especially helpful for accessing files contained in network folders or Windows-only applications when you are not on campus. Each option described below requires access to the internet.

  • Section 1 will describe how to access Omnissa Horizon through a web browser on any computer.
  • Section 2 will describe where to go install and how to use Omnissa Horizon client on your Dana Hall Mac or personal computer

Option 1: Web Version

1.2 Logging in

  1. Navigate to https://horizon.danahall.org
  2. Select Omnissa Horizon Web Client

3.  Enter your Dana Hall username and password without (@danahall.org) and then click Login.

1.2 Select:  Launching a virtual Windows 11 computer.

Most users will only see the option for Windows 11 Desktop. Double-click this option will open a new window where you’ll gain access to a virtual Windows 11 computer.

1.3 Use the Virtual Windows Desktop

The virtual desktop is new ready to use. If you typically use a Windows computer for work it should look very similar to your desktop computer.

1.4 Disconnect from Omnissa Horizon

When you are done using your Windows desktop PLEASE disconnect from the desktop by following these steps:

(1) Click the Windows icon in the bottom left corner

(2) Click in the User icon

(3) Click Sign Out

Option 2. Full Omnissa Horizon View Client Application Installation

To install on Omnissa Horizon Client on your Mac

(1) Open a web browser and navigate to https://horizon.danahall.org

(2) Click Install Omnissa Horizon Client

2.1 Find the correct installer

Select the installer for the type of computer you are using (Mac in this example). Click “Go to Downloads”

2.2 Download the Installer

2.3 Open Your Downloads Folder

Locate the installer for Omnissa Horizon Client. It will most likely have a similar name as below, but the numbers may be different.

Double click the installer and follow the installation instructions.

2.4 Find the Omnissa Horizon Client on Your Computer

Open your Applications folder and locate “Omnissa Horizon Client”

2.5 Add a New Server

After opening the Omnissa Horizon Client you will be prompted to add a New Server.  Double click the + sign to add the server.

**If you already had Omnissa Horizon Client installed by Dana Hall on your Dana Hall Computer you may already have a server setup here**

2.6 Enter the Server Name

In the field for the Connection Server enter:

https://horizon.danahall.org and then click Connect

2.7 Login

Enter your Dana Hall username and password without (@danahall.org) and then click Log In.

2.8 Launch Your Windows Desktop

2.9 Use Your Virtual Windows Desktop

The virtual desktop is new ready to use. If you typically use a Windows computer for work it should look very similar to your desktop computer.

2.10 Disconnecting or Unlocking

  1. After you are done using the virtual desktop it is best to disconnect from it, which can be done by clicking on the plug symbol as indicated by (1) on the image below.
  2. There may be times when you need to unlock the screen of your virtual desktop. Control-Alt-Delete on a Mac keyboard will not unlock you the computer, but if you click on the icon indicated by (2) that will send a command the virtual desktop allowing you to enter your password.
